Patrickbrandon Smaller

Patrick Brandon, PE
ASPE President/AEEF Vice President

Patrick Brandon, SE holds professional licenses in Civil and Structural Engineering and leads the Structural Engineering Department at Design Alaska. Pat has held all officer positions within the Fairbanks ASPE chapter and now serves on the ASPE Statewide Board. Pat earned his Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering from UAF and continues to reside in Fairbanks. Prior to engineering his first career was in the commercial construction industry. He helped build critical infrastructure around Alaska, including the Bassett Army Hospital, GVEA’s North Pole Expansion Power Plant, and oil production facilities on the North Slope. In his off time you’ll find Pat… well you won’t find Pat because he’ll be out hiking, fishing, or snow machining out in Alaska’s wilderness somewhere.

Leora Houtary

Leora Houtary, PE

Leora A. Houtary, PE is a licensed Mechanical Engineer in the State of Alaska, working at United States Coast Guard Civil Engineering Unit in Juneau Alaska as a mechanical engineering designer, Contracting Officer Representative and Design project manager with a focus on supporting HVAC systems and maintenance and construction in the Alaska Area of Operations for USCG. She attended the University of Alaska Fairbanks and received her BSME. She is proud of her son, who is a computer technician for the State of Alaska. She grew up in Ketchikan Alaska and is a lifelong Alaskan who enjoys hiking, painting, and music endeavors.

Iain McPherson

Iain McPherson, PE

Iain McPherson, PE is a licensed Civil Engineer in the State of Alaska, working at Kinney Engineering in Anchorage as roadway designer and project manager with a focus on intersections, lighting and safety improvements. He grew up in Alaska (Girdwood and Anchorage), then went to Milwaukee, WI to earn his bachelor’s in civil engineering from Marquette University. Marrying a fellow Alaskan from Fairbanks has given both Iain and his spouse the opportunity to show the parts of Alaska where they grew up to each other and their children.

Craig Bledsoe

Craig Bledsoe, PE

Craig Bledsoe, P.E., CSP is a licensed Safety Engineer and Certified Safety Professional specializing in Aircraft Accident Investigation and Aviation Safety.  Craig is an Aircraft Commander with service in four U.S. military components as well as holding an FAA Airline Transport Pilot license having flown for three major air carriers.  Craig is a published author of technical articles in multiple peer-reviewed technical journals and volunteers with Scouting programs to rebuild old Amateur Radio equipment for emergency communications worldwide.  Craig is a graduate of the University of Southern California with an MS in Safety Engineering, and he represents the Alaska Society of Professional Engineers (ASPE) within the Western Region of the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) leadership structure.

Emily Winfield

Emily Winfield, PE
ASPE Faibanks Chapter Director

Emily Winfield, PE is a licensed mechanical engineer, certified commissioning authority, and LEED AP with extensive experience in HVAC systems, plumbing systems, fire protection systems, and building automation systems. She has designed on a wide variety of projects including healthcare facilities, recreational facilities, projects in remote locations, and utility distribution among others. Emily is passionate about sustainability and tailoring building design to function efficiently in the Alaskan climate. Emily graduated from the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada with a Bachelor’s of Science in Mechanical Engineering. Prior to studying engineering, she received a Bachelor’s of Arts from St. Mary’s University in Nova Scotia.

Darrell Wetherall

Darrell Wetherall, PE
ASPE Juneau Chapter Director/AEEF Board Member

Darrell Wetherall, PE is a licensed electrical engineer in the State of Alaska, working at Alaska Electric Light and Power in Juneau. Darrell is the Vice President of Transmission and Distribution and oversees all aspects of construction, operations and maintenance of the transmission and distribution systems. He graduated from the University of California San Diego with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1994. Darrell has served on the Juneau Commission on Sustainability and the Building Code Board of Appeals. He enjoys boating, hunting and skiing in his free time.

Chris Miller

Chris Miller, PE
AEEF Director

Chris Miller, PE is a licensed Mechanical, Fire Protection, Environmental and Controls Engineer in the State of Alaska.   He is the President of Design Alaska, an Architecture/Engineering/Surveying company in Fairbanks.   His day to day roll includes design project management, starting new projects, negotiating contracts and hiring new staff.   Chris grew up in Wisconsin and obtained a Mechanical Engineering degree from Iowa State University before moving to Alaska and building his career in the Engineering industry. He gives his time and energy to the community through involvement in engineering societies, the Fairbanks Downtown Association, a community steel drum band, and a Certified Flight Instructor teaching pilots how to fly in the unique Alaska environment.
